Cooling Oceanside, One Tree at a Time
The Oceanside Canopy for Climate Tree Giveaway Program is a partnership between the City of Oceanside and Tree San Diego designed to expand tree canopy across our community and support local climate action. Through this pilot program, Oceanside residents and businesses can receive trees and resources at no cost to help plant and care for them on their private property.
Trees provide many benefits to our community, including:
• Cooling neighborhoods and reducing urban heat
• Improving air quality
• Supporting biodiversity and urban habitat
• Improving soil health and reducing erosion
• Enhancing neighborhood beauty and livability
• Providing shade that can help lower energy use
Expanding Oceanside’s tree canopy also supports implementation of the City’s Climate Action Plan (CAP) by advancing urban forestry, helping cool streets and homes, reducing energy demand, capturing and storing carbon, and strengthening the community’s resilience to rising temperatures.
Program Partnership
The City of Oceanside is partnering with Tree San Diego, a regional nonprofit dedicated to expanding urban tree canopy across San Diego County.
With support from the City of Oceanside, Tree San Diego manages program registration, tree distribution, and participant support. Together, we are working to bring more trees to Oceanside’s neighborhoods and businesses.
Tree Distribution Options
Participants may receive their trees through different distribution methods, depending on availability and program scheduling:
• Voucher program to pick up trees at participating nurseries
• Community tree distribution events
• Curbside delivery for selected participants
How to Participate
Program registration and participation is managed through Tree San Diego’s program website (link below). Participation is first-come, first-served while supplies last and is limited to residents and businesses located in Oceanside (proof of residency or business license will be required). Please note that program trees must be planted on private properties and planting in public right-of-way areas is not allowed.
